Smokies win 7-2, end Lookouts' year

With eight hits, the Chattanooga Lookouts equaled the output of the Tennessee Smokies Saturday night.

The visitors just made better use out of the hits they had.

With timely hitting, defense and pitching, the Smokies completed a three-game sweep of the Lookouts by defeating the hosts 7-2 at AT&T Field, ending Chattanooga's season.

A visibly disappointed Lookouts manager Carlos Subero was unavailable for comment immediately after the game. Pitching coach Chuck Crim was ejected in the third inning for arguing balls and strikes.

Lookouts starting pitcher Allen Webster struck out six and allowed six hits but was pegged with all seven runs, although only three were earned. His defense had two errors at inopportune times. Webster walked four.

The Smokies got three in the first, highlighted by a two-run triple by Rebel Ridling, but Chattanooga got one of those runs back on a home run by Alfredo Silverio.

A dropped ball on a force attempt by second baseman Elian Herrara extended the third inning, when the Smokies scored a pair more. They added two in the fourth on a single by Ridling.

Jake Lemmerman singled in the Lookouts' final run in the bottom of the fourth.

Smokies manager Brian Harper was pleased with the production from his entire team.

"This has just been a great group of professional guys," he said. "The camaraderie has been great and everybody has played hard.

"All year long, the guys have picked each other up."
