Lookouts jump out, hold off Smokies, 7-5

KODAK, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Lookouts jumped to a seven-run lead and held on to defeat the Tennessee Smokies 7-5 in midday Southern League baseball Tuesday.

Chattanooga opened the series finale with an Anthony Jackson single to center field, a Nick Buss single to center, a J.T. Wise two-run single to left and a Blake Smith RBI double to right. That gave the Lookouts (9-11) a 3-0 lead, and a fielding error by Tennessee first baseman Justin Bour brought in two more first-inning runs to make it 5-0.

The Lookouts extended their advantage to 7-0 in the third inning with RBI singles by Matt Wallach and Jake Lemmerman, and they survived a four-run eighth by the Smokies that contained doubles by Jae-Hoon Ha, Michael Burgess and James Adduci.

Game one of a five-game series against Mobile at AT&T Field is tonight at 7:15. Nathan Eovaldi (0-0, 2.25 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Lookouts, with Tyler Skaggs (0-2, 3.63) scheduled for the BayBears.
