BayBears stretch Lookouts loss skid

Whether the recent promotion of pitcher Nathan Eovaldi to the Los Angeles Dodgers is brief or long-term, the Chattanooga Lookouts know they need to prepare to move on without him.

They also know that won't always be easy.

"We knew Nate was going to be here for a temporary moment, but I do miss Nate," Lookouts pitching coach Chuck Crim said Saturday. "He's a great kid, and he deserves to be where he's at."

The Lookouts dropped their third straight game and third straight series Saturday night, falling 7-6 to Mobile. Aaron Miller allowed seven runs on 10 hits for Chattanooga, which fell to 10-14 and is four games under .500 for the first time.

Saturday's game was accompanied by a sellout crowd of 6,391, the second sellout at AT&T Field this month.

Eovaldi, who made 10 appearances and six starts for the Dodgers last year, had a 2.08 earned run average with the Lookouts this season and 14 strikeouts in 13 innings. His departure leaves the Lookouts with a rotation of Chris Withrow (4.50 ERA), Allen Webster (5.68), Ethan Martin (3.58), Miller (5.96) and Matt Magill (5.68), who is scheduled to start today's series finale.

"If he does stay up there, then we have our rotation," manager Carlos Subero said. "It is what it is. I still think we have a five-man rotation that's pretty solid."

Consecutive RBI triples by Brent Clevlen and Marc Krauss in the first inning gave the BayBears a 2-0 lead, and they made it 3-0 in the second when Raoul Torrez doubled past third base and scored on Chase Anderson's sacrifice to right. Doubles by Daniel Kaczrowski, Matt Davison and Clevlen to open the third extended Mobile's lead to 5-0.

Chattanooga made it interesting in the eighth when Blake Smith's two-run single up the middle and Travis Denker's one-run single up the middle made it a one-run game, but the Lookouts grounded out three times in the ninth.
