Chattanooga starting pitcher Matt Magill allowed just three hits Friday night against the Jackson Generals, but two of them produced runs.

Jackson eked out a 2-1 victory in the series opener before a crowd of 4,289, pulling the Generals (33-28) within two games of the Lookouts (35-26) in the Southern League's North Division second-half race with nine games remaining.

The Generals took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Francisco Martinez drew a leadoff walk and scored on Brad Miller's double to left field. They made it 2-0 in the fourth inning on Johermyn Chavez's home run to left-center.

Chattanooga pulled within 2-1 in the sixth inning when J.T. Wise led off with an infield hit and wound up scoring on C.J. Retherford's one-out groundout with the bases loaded.

Magill allowed the three hits and two runs in seven innings. He recorded seven strikeouts but gave up four walks.

Getting the save for the Generals was Logan Bawcom, the former Lookouts closer who was traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Seattle Mariners on July 31.
