Tennessee Smokies edge Chattanooga Lookouts, 4-3

KODAK, Tenn. - Stephen Bruno singled to center field with one out in the ninth inning, advanced to second on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt and scored on Christian Villanueva's single to center as the Tennessee Smokies edged the Chattanooga Lookouts 4-3 in the second-half opener for both Southern League baseball teams Thursday night.

Chattanooga had tied the game earlier in the ninth on Chris O'Brien's single that scored Daniel Mayora.

The Smokies took a 3-1 lead on Rubi Silva's two-run home run to right in the sixth inning, and the Lookouts pulled within 3-2 in the seventh on Scott Schebler's homer to center.

Game two of the five-game series is tonight at 7:15. Matt Shelton (2-1, 3.13 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Lookouts, with Matt Loosen (3-2, 5.17) scheduled for the Smokies.
