Lookouts batters combined for a season-high four long balls in an 8-3 win over the Montgomery Biscuits.
Joc Pederson went deep twice, Angelo Songco blasted a three-run shot in the first inning and J.T. Wise hit a two-run homer in the seventh as the Lookouts (40-39, 4-5 second half) snapped a three-game skid against the Biscuits (42-37, 5-4).
"We're just trying to put together quality at-bats to help the team win, and I think we did that really well tonight," said Pederson, who has 13 homers this season. "It was to fun to watch everybody hit the ball hard."
Lookouts pitcher Duke von Schamann got off to a rough start, giving up a leadoff home run to Kevin Kiermaier but escaping the first inning without more damage. The Biscuits stranded runners on third and second.
It was a better start than Montgomery's Victor Mateo, who walked Rafael Ynoa and gave up a two-run shot to right field by Pederson for a 2-1 Lookouts lead. Brian Cavazos-Galvez then singled, as did Wise, with Cavazos-Galvez moving to third on an error.
All that without any outs, and then Songco crushed the first pitch he saw over the beer garden in right for a 5-1 lead.
The Biscuits closed the gap to 5-2 with a run in the second and added another run in the fifth with a triple by Mark Thomas and an RBI double by Robi Estrada.
Von Schamann earned the win, allowing eight hits, three earned runs and striking out five in five innings.
Pederson homered again in the seventh, swatting a solo shot to right off Biscuits reliever Austin Hubbard. Cavazos-Galvez then singled and Wise belted his second homer of the night, pushing the Lookouts' lead to 8-3.
The five-game series wraps up tonight. Ross Stripling (4-1, 2.79 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Lookouts, with Jake Floethe (1-1, 6.16) set to go for the Biscuits.
