Holmberg keys 5-2 Mobile win against the Chattanooga Lookouts

A beautiful night at AT&T Field did not result in a beautiful outcome for the Chattanooga Lookouts.

Not when David Holmberg was on the mound or at the plate.

Holmberg pitched eight scoreless innings and drove in two runs as Mobile dumped Chattanooga 5-2 before a crowd of 2,640. The Lookouts lost for the eighth time in nine games and are nine games under .500 for the first time this season at 12-21.

The BayBears improved to 16-17.

Rated by Baseball America as the No. 6 prospect in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, the left-handed Holmberg racked up eight strikeouts and lowered his earned run average to 1.98. Griff Erickson got the only extra-base hit off Holmberg with a double to center field in the second inning, but he was thrown out at third trying to stretch it.

Mobile took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Ender Inciarte led off with a double to left, took third on a throwing error and scored on Mike Freeman's groundout. The BayBears made it 3-0 in the fourth on a Holmberg RBI single to center and an Inciarte RBI triple to right.

Holmberg doubled to left in the sixth to drive in another run, and Ryan Stovall put the guests up 5-0 in the ninth with a home run to right.

The Lookouts avoided the shutout in the ninth with RBI doubles to left by Yasiel Puig and C.J. Retherford. Joc Pederson and Erickson each went 2-for-4 for Chattanooga, with Pederson raising his season average to .333.
