Kids can take on course Monday

Kids can race like the pros

Riders as young as 3 will be able to race like the pros during the Volkswagen USA Cycling Professional Road and Time Trial National Championships. UnitedHealthcare is sponsoring a Kid's Race on Monday for young riders in three age groups - 3-6. 7-9 and 10-12.

The number of racers per group is limited to 30, so pre-registration is encourage.

The race itself will take place at the actual start/finish line the pros will be using on Market Street near Miller Plaza.

"It's a fun way to get the family out to the event and it's fun for the kids who get to ride the same course and cross the same finish line as the pros," said Emily Sanders, manager of corporate partnerships, Medalists Sports.

"It also promotes wellness in the community."

There are a few rules for the youngsters. Mom and/or dad is welcome on the course to assist the riders. Each rider must wear a helmet.

There is no charge to ride and each racer will be awarded a water bottle, T-shirt and a medal.
