Smokies beat Lookouts 7-1 behind Antigua

The Chattanooga Lookouts fell behind early and lost 7-1 to the visiting Tennessee Smokies in their Southern League series finale Thursday.

Designated hitter Taylor Davis was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and catcher Willson Contreras was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Smokies, who are two games ahead of the first-half champion Lookouts for third place in the North Division. Jacob Hanneman's double gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the third inning, and Jeimer Candelario was 2-for-4 and made it 2-0 with a single scoring Contreras in the fourth.

Two-run fifth and sixth innings put Tennessee up 6-0 behind starting pitcher Jeffry Antigua (5-4), who allowed four hits. D.J. Baxendale (6-5) was the losing pitcher after allowing eight hits and four earned runs in five innings.

Chattanooga's run came in the seventh, when Levi Michael singled between walks for Travis Harrison and Niko Goodrum - loading the bases with no outs - and Harrison scored on a double-play grounder by Jairo Rodriguez. Rodriguez was 2-for-3 and Michael 2-for-4 for the game.

The Lookouts begin a series at Birmingham tonight.
