Mike Gonzales had two hits and Max Kepler homered as the Chattanooga Lookouts edged the Barons 4-3 in Birmingham on Sunday.
Chattanooga mproved to 38-24 and inched closer to the Southern League's North Division first-half title.
The Lookouts broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning when Gonzales singled to right field, reached second on a passed ball, went to third on a Heiker Meneses bunt single and scored when Jairo Rodriguez hit into a double play.
The finale of the five-game series in Birmingham is this afternoon at 12:30 EDT. Greg Peavey (5-2, 5.14 ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Lookouts, with Tyler Barnette (2-2, 1.05) scheduled for the Barons.
