Smokies jump out, defeat Lookouts 13-9

Even a five-run bottom of the ninth inning left the Chattanooga Lookouts four runs short of the Tennessee Smokies in Tuesday's Southern League game at AT&T Field.

The Smokies won 13-9 after leading 12-0 midway through the fifth inning. They scored six runs in the second inning, when Ian Happ led off with a double and Bijan Rademacher, Trey Martin, Chris Coghlan and Chesny Young mixed singles with two walks and a run-scoring wild pitch.

Martin and Young each was 4-for-5, Martin scoring four runs and driving in two, and Coghlan and Happ each had two hits and two RBIs for the Smokies. The team totaled 17 hits.

The Lookouts totaled 14 hits, with two each for Zach Granite, Ryan Walker, Mitch Garver, Leonardo Reginatto and Shannon Wilkerson. Leadoff man Granite tripled and singled, and D.J. Hicks had a two-run double in the five-run ninth.

The teams play again tonight at AT&T Field at 7:15. It's Dogs at the Diamond night. David Hurlbut (7-5, 3.56 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Lookouts, with Jen-Ho Tseng (5-3, 3.03) scheduled for Tennessee.
