Generals down Lookouts in series finale, 3-1

The Jackson Generals defeated the Chattanooga Lookouts 3-1 on Monday in the final game of a five-game series at AT&T Field opening the second half of the Southern League baseball season.

The announced crowd of 1,775 saw Chattanooga (3-2 second half, 39-36 overall) score first when Daniel Palka singled in Zack Granite in the bottom of the fourth inning. Granite's single starting the half inning was the first hit off winning pitcher Brett Ash (8-3), and the Lookouts' leadoff batter moved to second when Ryan Walker grounded out to first.

The Generals' runs came in the seventh. Tim Lopes' one-out double came after a walk to D.J. Peterson. Kyle Petty drove in the tying run with a groundout to shortstop, and catcher Steve Baron followed with a two-run homer to left off losing pitcher Kohl Stewart (1-3).

Dan Altavilla pitched the ninth for Jackson (2-3, 48-27), the first half's North Division winner, and earned his ninth save. Granite had two of Chattanooga's five hits off three Generals pitchers.

The Lookouts are off today as they travel to Pensacola, Fla., for a five-game series against the Blue Wahoos starting Wednesday. Their next home game is next Monday at 6:15 p.m. against the Birmingham Barons with Fourth of July fireworks afterward.
