Jake Mauer to manage Lookouts in 2017

The Chattanooga Lookouts announced Tuesday that Jake Mauer will manage the Class AA baseball team in its third season as an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.

Mauer, the older brother of 13-year Twins standout Joe Mauer, guided Cedar Rapids to a 316-241 record the past four seasons in the Single-A Midwest League. He is the only member of Chattanooga's 2017 staff who has been announced.

"We hope to know more shortly," Lookouts president and general manager Rich Mozingo said Tuesday evening.

The 38-year-old Mauer was selected by the Twins in the 23rd round of the 2001 draft, when his younger brother was the top overall pick. The older Mauer played five minor league seasons in Minnesota's organization, posting a .256 career average and reaching New Britain of the Double-A Eastern League in 2004-05.

Doug Mientkiewicz, who managed the Lookouts the past two seasons and led Chattanooga in 2015 to its first Southern League championship since 1988, will manage the Fort Myers Miracle of the high Single-A Florida State League. Mientkiewicz came to the Lookouts from Fort Myers, which is where his family lives.
