Lookouts win 9-3 over Jacksonville

Chattanooga broke a tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, added three in the sixth Friday at AT&T Field and defeated Jacksonville 9-3 in a Southern League baseball game in front of a crowd of 3,312.

The Lookouts' fifth began with a double by Jonathan Rodriguez. Andy Wilkins singled to center, driving him in, and Max Murphy's single left runners on the corners. T.J. White's infield single scored Wilkins with the tiebreaking run and also chased Jacksonville starter Trevor Richards (2-1).

Reliever Joe Gunkel came on and struck out three in succession, but the Lookouts got to him the next inning, starting with Ryan Walker's infield single and stolen base. After LaMonte Wade and Rodriguez each singled off an infielder's glove, Rodriguez picking up an RBI, Murphy doubled with one out to make it 7-3. Rodriguez scored on a two-out wild pitch.

Murphy tacked on a run-scoring triple in the eighth for his fourth hit, and Rodriguez totaled three of the 15 hits for the Lookouts (59-33, 17-5 second half). The Jumbo Shrimp (41-51, 11-11) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but White came back with a two-run home run in the bottom half.

Winning pitcher Kohl Stewart (3-4) allowed six hits and three runs, all earned, in his six innings of work with one walk and seven strikeouts. Randy Rosario threw two innings of scoreless relief, and Luke Bard pitched one.

Chattanooga has won the first two in the five-game series, which continues tonight at 7:15. Probable starters are right-hander Dereck Rodriguez (3-1) for the Lookouts and left-hander Mike Kickham (5-6) for Jacksonville.
