Lookouts rally past Barons in series opener

Dan Rohlfing and Edgar Corcino had two-run doubles in the eighth inning for the Chattanooga Lookouts, who broke free Saturday night for a 9-6 downing of Birmingham at AT&T Field before an announced crowd of 4,761.

Rohlfing's double to right field scored LaMonte Wade and Jonathan Rodriguez to give the Lookouts a 6-5 advantage, while Corcino's double to left scored Dan Gamache and Rohlfing to make it 8-5. Corcino came home on a Nick Gordon single to give Chattanooga (20-16) its largest lead of the game.

Saturday's series opener included three lead changes in the seventh and eighth innings.

Cleuluis Rondon's double to left in the eighth scored Mason Robbins and Keon Barnum to give Birmingham a 5-4 lead. The Lookouts had taken a 4-3 advantage in the seventh on Corcino's two-out single to right that scored Rodriguez and Levi Michael.

Corcino drove in four runs, Rodriguez went 3-for-5 and Gordon went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while raising his season average to .321.

The Barons raced to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Tery Michalczewski's double to left field that scored Jake Peter and Cameron Seitzer. Chattanooga pulled within 2-1 in the third inning, when Tanner English's two-out triple to center was followed by Gordon's double to left.

A fielding error in the fourth inning by Lookouts shortstop Engelb Vielma allowed Robbins to reach, and Robbins came around to score to allow Birmingham to regain its two-run bulge at 3-1.

The two teams will play again this afternoon at 2:15, with Fernando Romero (2-4, 3.90) scheduled for the Lookouts and Michael Kopech (2-2, 2.70) scheduled for the Barons.
