Ooltewah teenager Jake Clayton won the $1,500 top prize in the Super Pro class Saturday night at the Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip. The 16-year-old son of IHRA modified champion Mike Clayton is a two-time Junior Dragster season champion at the strip. He won Saturday with a 5.71-second burst on a 5.70 dial in his new 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier roadster with a 400-cubic-inch small-block Chevy engine. Eric Boyd from Flintstone was second with a 4.92 run on a 4.90 dial in a Chevy dragster, and Cynthia Warnock of Chattanooga was third in her Chevy dragster prepared by her father, Ronnie Warnock. Michael Garner won the Foot Brake class in a 1967 Camaro SS, and Josh Ayers was second with Mike McAllister third. Randy Petet of Ringgold won the Outlaw class with a 4.58 run at 167 mph in a 1992 turbo-charged Firebird; Barry Crisp of Symsonia, Ky., was second. Penny Galina was first in Outlaw Dragster at 3.97 (172 mph) with Vanasa Flanagan second at 4.27. Branson Jones of Rainsville, Ala., won the Junior Dragster class with Bryson Kaiser second, Khloe Wilson third and Shelby Whittle fourth.
