Lookouts one-hit Barons to square series

Chattanooga pitchers Stephen Gonsalves, Tyler Jay, Zack Jones and Ryne Harper combined to blank Birmingham 2-0 Saturday night at AT&T Field.

Gonsalves did not allow a hit before being pulled after 71 pitches with one out in the sixth inning. He yielded three walks and tallied three strikeouts.

The Barons got their lone hit with with two outs in the seventh inning, when Seby Zavala singled to center field off Jay. In the ninth inning, Harper retired the side via strikeouts.

Chattanooga took a 1-0 lead in the third on Edgar Corcino's sacrifice to right that scored Tanner English, who had doubled to left and advanced to third on Sean Miller's sacrifice bunt. The Lookouts extended their advantage to 2-0 in the seventh, when Miller's single to center scored Wynston Sawyer.

An announced crowd of 1,817 attended the game, which ended with the temperature 38 degrees.

The Lookouts and Barons are each 1-1 this season and will play a pair of seven-inning games this afternoon, a doubleheader created when Friday's game was rained out. The opening contest is set for 2:15.
