Lookouts fall in 10 innings to Smokies, 5-4

The Tennessee Smokies scored twice in the bottom of the 10th inning Monday night to edge the Chattanooga Lookouts 5-4 in Southern League baseball in front of an announced crowd of 3,646 at Kodak.

The Lookouts had gone ahead in the top of the 10th on Alex Perez's one-out RBI single.

Chattanooga trailed 1-0 before tying it in the fifth when Tanner English homered, right after the Smokies had erased a baserunner with a double play. The Lookouts went ahead in the eighth on Brent Rooker's two-run home run, but they allowed Knoxville to tie it with two in the bottom of the inning.

Charcer Burks went 3-for-4 for the Lookouts (39-41, 3-7 second half) with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Zack Short had two hits and two RBIs. Reliever Ryne Harper (0-2) took the loss.

Game six of the six-game series in Kodak is tonight at 7. Omar Bencomo (5-2, 3.19) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Lookouts, with Thomas Hatch (6-4, 3.78) scheduled for the Smokies.

Chattanooga's Lewis Thorpe was named Monday as the Southern League pitcher of the week. In his two starts last week against Biloxi at AT&T Field, Thorpe struck out 19 batters and allowed just two walks while holding the Shuckers to a .119 batting average.
