Lookouts lose fourth in a row to Smokies, 5-3

The Chattanooga Lookouts lost their fourth consecutive game to the Tennessee Smokies in Kodak on Tuesday, 5-3, and are 3-9 in the second half of their Southern League schedule.

Tennessee first baseman Yasiel Balaguert had three hits, including a pair of two-run doubles. His second broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning and made a winner out of reliever Zach Hodges (3-1), who pitched three innings and allowed no runs on one hit.

Ryan Eades (3-3) took the loss after coming on in relief of Omar Bencomo (six innings, nine hits, three earned runs).

The Lookouts took a brief 2-1 lead in the third inning on Brent Rooker's two-run double, but the Smokies went back ahead in the bottom half on Balaguert's two-run double. Chattanooga tied it in the fourth on Mitchell Kranson's RBI double.

Zack Short and Trent Giambrone joined Balaguert with three hits apiece for the Smokies (8-4). Rooker, Kranson and Alex Perez each had two hits for the Lookouts, who begin a four-game home series against Birmingham at AT&T Field tonight at 6:15.

Sean Poppen (1-4, 5.46 ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Lookouts, with Jimmy Lambert (1-0, 1.50) scheduled for the Barons.
