Evans' future as Georgia AD in limbo

The future of Damon Evans as University of Georgia athletic director is in the hands of school president Michael Adams after Evans was arrested Wednesday night in Atlanta and charged with driving under the influence.

"I think he's going to let things play out," Evans said Thursday night at a news conference in Athens. "He has to do what is in the best interest of this institution. He told me that, and I told him that I agreed with him from that standpoint. He knows I've made a serious mistake and understands that.

"If I bring too much shame and embarrassment to this institution, then there is no telling what may happen."

Adams did not attend the news conference but said through a statement that he will reserve further action pending a full review by staff and legal counsel.

"Certainly this is not an example of the kind of leadership that I expect our senior administrators to set," Adams said. "I have high regard for Damon personally. I care deeply about him and his family and know him to be a man of integrity. He has sincerely apologized to me for the embarrassment this has brought upon the university."
