Lookouts lose 7-3 to Stars

The Chattanooga Lookouts dropped a 7-3 decision to Huntsville on Saturday night at AT&T Field, and then they scattered.

Today begins the first of a three-day break for the Southern League All-Star Game, which takes place Monday night at Huntsville's Joe Davis Stadium. The Lookouts do not play again until Wednesday, when they visit Tennessee, so this is the longest in-season break they will receive.

"We obviously welcome it because it's a long schedule," hitting coach John Valentin said. "Even though it's a 140-game season and not 162, it's still long. It's a good break, and you can get refreshed."

The Stars broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning when Drew Anderson's single to right scored Caleb Gindl, and they added insurance in the ninth on Zelous Wheeler's two-run double to right-center. Each team is 10-9 for the second half.

Several Lookouts will use this opportunity to go home -- Texas, Mississippi, Florida and North Carolina. The five players who live out of the country will remain in Chattanooga, as will the five from California.

Relief pitcher Cole St. Clair was at Great Lakes last year and flew from Michigan to San Francisco and back to Michigan when the Midwest League had its three-day break.

"That was no short task," he said. "Since I'm here, I might as well enjoy it and see this part of the country and learn something about this area."

St. Clair has his girlfriend in town and said the two may visit the Tennessee Aquarium, Rock City or even Nashville.

Second baseman Jaime Pedroza, who resides in Covina, Calif., is ready for some relaxation as well.

"I'll sit here and enjoy Tennessee. I like it," Pedroza said. "I've done pretty much everything there is to do here, and I'm just going to head out and do some golfing. The Aquarium is awesome, though, so I may give that another shot.

"It's too much traveling to go home, and you end up tired anyway."

Lookouts manager Carlos Subero and shortstop Dee Gordon will be participating in today's Futures Game in Anaheim, Calif. Representing the Lookouts in the league all-star game Monday will be center fielder Trayvon Robinson, third baseman Corey Smith and reliever Kenley Jansen.
