Skrine hits road

Former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga cornerback Buster Skrine capped off a busy week Friday with a trip to Pittsburgh to visit with the Steelers.

On Monday he went to Arizona to meet with the Cardinals, on Wednesday he had a private workout with the Cincinnati Bengals and then he went to Pittsburgh.

"It was a pretty busy week, but I enjoyed it and I feel good about how things went," said Skrine, a two-time All-Southern Conference pick who was one of the fastest runners at the NFL combine. "A lot of it is me getting to know the coaches and them getting to know me."

The Steelers visited this week with another SoCon defensive back, The Citadel's Cortez Allen, who was in Pittsburgh on Thursday.

So far, Skrine has had workouts with the Cardinals, Bengals, Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns. Up next is a workout, along with other prospects from Georgia, next Thursday with the Falcons in Atlanta.

With the teams represented at UTC's pro day and those that have had private workouts for Skrine, he is drawing far more interest from AFC teams than from NFC teams. Only three of the 15 team representatives at the pro day last month were from NFC clubs. The Cardinals are the only NFC team to meet with Skrine individually.

"I don't know why that is, but it's true that most of the teams have been AFC teams," he said. "Any team works for me."

Skrine said he expected things to settle down after the Falcons workout, which is two weeks before the draft begins on April 28. Skrine has been projected to go anywhere from the third to sixth round.
