Wofford women have third shot at Lady Mocs

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Wofford played two very different games during the regular season, with UTC's Lady Mocs winning both.

They will meet for a third time this morning in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference women's basketball tournament at McKenzie Arena.

In the first game, on Jan. 2 in McKenzie, current No. 11 seed Wofford (8-21) led by 18 points in the first half and was up by 14 with 15:54 left in the game. Third-seeded UTC (16-13) rallied, getting a career-high 40 points from Whitney Hood, and won 93-88.

The second meeting, on Feb. 5 at Wofford, wasn't so close. UTC dominated the second half and won 72-45.

"They're a very competitive team and we've got to be ready to play," Hood said Friday. "We've gotten better defensively the last 10 games, and when we played them at their place we played really good defense."

Wofford's April Moorhouse, who scored 20 points in the Terriers' first-round win Thursday over No. 6 UNC Greensboro, said she was looking forward to a rematch with UTC.

"We knew if we won this one today we got the opportunity to kind of redeem ourselves in this building, and that's what we've been waiting for all season," she said. "We're ready and we're here."

The winner of today's game will face No. 2 seed Samford in the semifinals Sunday.
