GALLATIN, Tenn. - Chattanooga State's top-seeded softball team and second-seeded baseball team both won Monday in the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII tournaments at Volunteer State, and the sixth-seeded Cleveland State baseball team joined them by upsetting the third-seeded hosts 6-0.

Jaime Harper continued his strong late-season pitching by scattering nine hits through nine innings for the Cougars, who face Chattanooga State at 5 p.m. EDT today. The Tigers, ranked seventh nationally, won 9-1 over the 10th-seeded Southwest Tennessee team that upset Motlow State in a Sunday play-in game, 12-9.

"Jaime has really thrown the ball well the last six weeks, and he came up big for us today," Cleveland State coach Mike Policastro said. "To give up no runs in nine innings against a good team is amazing."

Cameron Brewster's two-out single in the fifth inning plated Austin Townes for a 1-0 Cougars lead against Pioneers pitcher Jonathan Sisco. That score remained into the ninth, when Gray Hutchinson doubled, Trevor Burgess reached on a strikeout wild pitch, Galen Bell was walked intentionally, Townes singled in a run and Derek Shugart blasted a grand slam.

The Cleveland State softball team lost 9-2 to Vol State and played Southwest Tennessee in a losers-bracket matchup late Monday night.

Chattanooga State's nationally 10th-ranked Lady Tigers won 5-3 over Jackson State after taking a 5-1 lead. They play this morning at 11 EDT against Walters State, a 4-1 winner over Columbia State. Second-seeded Motlow edged Southwest and faces Vol State at 1 p.m.

Misha Aldridge pitched a four-hitter for Chattanogoa State (44-12), hit a two-run homer in the second inning and began the two-run fourth with a single. Megan Crawford doubled her to third, and then Shelby Johnson was hit by a pitch and London Germ grounded into an RBI.

After Jackson State scored a run on errors in the top of the first, the Lady Tigers countered immediately on Johnson's leadoff homer.
