HOOVER, Ala. - Greg Sankey became the first SEC commissioner not named Mike Slive or Roy Kramer since 1990 to open the conference's annual media event outside of Birmingham.

Sankey kicked off the unofficial kick off to the college football season by discussing his vision of adding to the league by embracing a "Scholars, Champions, Leaders" campaign.

It's a project in which Sankey wants every scholarship athlete to graduate from college, the league to win every championship and its members to change the world.

"Some of you may be saying that it's simply not possible," Sankey said before listing numerous memorable athletic names from Cam Newton to Shaquille O'Neal, who returned to SEC schools to get their degrees.

"But no great achievement ever produce by an attempt to be average."
