Sauzon 10th for UTC women's golf and more Chattanooga region sports news

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf team ended up sixth out of 13 teams Sunday in the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate tournament at Augusta, Ga. Mocs senior Agathe Sauzon shot 71 on Sunday to finish tied for 10th place at five-over-par 218. Emily McLennan (224) finished tied for 18, followed by Cris Perez and Megan Woods (230) in a tie for 35th and Sarah Dolmovich was tied for 52nd at 235.

* Alison Eleey's 77 on Sunday lifted her to a sixth place finish as the Sewanee women's and men's teams ended play at a big tournament at Jekyll Island. The Sewanee women finished with their best round of the tournament Sunday to have a total 54-hole score of 1,032. Jenna King also did well for the Sewanee women, shooting a 79 Sunday to finish tied for 13th. The Sewanee men finished tied for 21st and were led by Saer Brown's 55th-place performance.

Baseball

Lee University swept a Gulf South doubleheader with Mississippi College, winning 8-6 and 9-0 on Sunday. In the first game, the Flames fell behind 3-0 before rallying with a four-run fourth inning and a three-run sixth inning and holding on for the win. MJ Brown homered for Lee and had three RBIs, and shortstop Andres Nelo was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run in the win. Dustin Lawson picked up the win despite giving up 10 hits over 7 1/3 innings, and Trenton Hill picked up his first save of the year by getting the final out of the game. Lee had little trouble in the second game, as Ben Holland was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Nathan Wierzgac and Brown each knocked in two runs in the win, nad Wierzgax and Zack Zyburt each had a pari of hits. Hill allowed one hit over five innings to pick up the win.

* Berry finished a three-game sweep of Sewanee in Southern Athletic Association play on Sunday with a 5-1 win in Rome, Ga., Sewanee starting pitcher Ryan Tillman took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits. Sewanee avoided the shutout when Tyler Minkkinen singled in the eight inning to score Jack Whaley.

Volleyball

* Bryan College athletic director Taylor Hasty announced late last week that the Dayton school will be offering men's volleyball as a varsity sport beginning in the 2015-16 school year, with highly successful women's coach David Shumaker adding the men's team to his duties. Bryan has had a men's club program for two years. "I am thrilled that we will be able to offer men's volleyball at Bryan College," Shumaker said in a posting on the school's website. "Men's volleyball is a growing sport, and I am excited to help grow the sport even more. We already have a core of highly committed male volleyball players here at Bryan. I am looking forward to developing a nationally respected NAIA men's volleyball program."

Equestrian

* Sewanee's Buckley Wallace and Iris Harrison finished first and second in the open over fences event in the Zone 5 Region 1 equestrian finals Friday at Sewanee, and Sara Parks, Emily Guest, Caroline White and Lindsay Stevenson joined them in qualifying for the zone finals. Parks won in novice over fences, and Guest in intermediate flat, White in walk-trot-canter and White in novice flat were reserve champions (runners-up) like Harrison. Wallace was fourth in intermediate flat, and Kathryn Miller was fourth in novice flat.
