Nygel Edmonds still plans to continue his football career in California, but the exact destination has changed. After several months of being committed to Stanford University, the McCallie defensive back has changed his mind and pledged to sign with the University of California, Berkley instead.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Edmonds, who transferred to McCallie from Atlanta prior to his junior season, has been rated among the nation's top 150 overall prospects and had more than 30 official offers.

"Nygel is a very athletic guy who has great ball skills," McCallie coach Ralph Potter said. "His best days on the field are still ahead of him, and I think he's happy with his decision to commit to Cal."

Despite playing in just seven games this past season because of injury, Edmonds had 26 tackles and one interception. His five kickoff returns included one for 71 yards.

Meanwhile, Blue Tornado teammate Jay Roberts, an all-state two-way lineman who started for three years on defense, has committed to William & Mary. Roberts, who became an offensive starter in 2015, graded out as an 85-percent blocker.

"Jay's a great young man and could be a program-defining player because of his effort and attitude," Potter said.
