Collegedale office condos meet growing need

The second phase of a $6 million office condominium complex is going up soon in Collegedale as developers see added growth in that area from Volkswagen's new plant.

"Today there is a lot of traffic, but when Volkswagen gets into full operation, you'll see a full change," Chattanooga developer Larry Armour said.

The first 14,200 square feet at Parkway Professional Center on Little Debbie Parkway opened in the second half of 2009 with a new office by orthodontist DeWayne McCamish serving as an anchor.

Dr. McCamish said his third location in Hamilton County was the result of requests for an office in the Ooltewah area.

He said the area is one of the fastest growing in the region and the new 4,400-square-foot office is a better way to serve patients. Randy Cooper and Marie Farrar are his associates there, Dr. McCamish said.

Mr. Armour said he hoped work on the second phase mirroring the first is expected to start in about 45 to 60 days.

"About a third of the building is pre-sold," he said, adding that Dr. McCamish and Chattanooga businessman Nelson Bowers are his partners in the development.

Two physicians are to go into the second phase, Mr. Armour said. He declined to give an average square foot price for the office space.

Volkswagen is building a $1 billion plant just a few miles south off Interstate 75. The plant, expected to employ over 2,000 workers, is to start producing vehicles in the first part of 2011.
