Volkswagen's Chattanooga plant and its suppliers plan job fairs next week to fill the hundreds of jobs being added at the VW assembly plant for the new Sports Utility Vehicle that Volkswagen will begin selling next year.
VW will host an on site career fair on Friday, Sept. 16, from 2-6 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Volkswagen Chattanooga Conference Center. The job fair marks the first time a career fair has been hosted by VW since the automaker began hiring in 2009.
Earlier in the week on Monday through Thursday, MAU Workforce Solutions has scheduled a hiring event from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day at the company's office at 6150 Shallowford Road, suite 104.
MAU, an outsourcing and human resources consulting group, is looking to hire temp-to-hire positions for automotive assemblers. Starting pay for the work is $11 an hour.
Eryka Menzies, a marketing specialist for the Augusta, Ga.-based staffing agency, said the staffing agency could not disclose who the automotive supplier is in Chattanooga. The job additions are being made to help VW prepare to produce a new midsize SUV.
"As we work towards ramping up production of a new SUV, we first must add nearly 1,100 new people to our top notch team," said Mario Duarte, senior manager of organizational development at Volkswagen Chattanooga. "Taking advantage of the open positions with Aerotek is the first step down the path to a fulfilling career at Volkswagen."
Aerotek is VW's contract staffing company.
Volkswagen and Aerotek recruiters will be available on site, and current Volkswagen Chattanooga production team members will be available for questions.
