ROSSVILLE Retired SGM Lloyd Nathan Bain, 73, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at his residence.He was a native of Chattanooga and had lived most of his life in Rossville where he was elected to the Rossville City Council in 2002, now serving in his third term. He also served on the Walker County Planning Commission, worked on a book of Rossville History and Chickamauga Campaign Trail Markers for Historic Rossville, McFarland House and Spring, and Rossville Gap. He attended Delray Baptist Church.He joined the Tennessee Army National Guard in 1955 serving for 43 years before his retirement in 1997 as a Sergeant Major. He served in Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm. He also worked for the Tennessee Department of Military for 32 years and nine months before his retirement. SGM Bain also participated in several NATO exercises in Europe.He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd F. and Maudie L. Bain; brother, Donovan L. Bain; and sister, Mary Jean Wilson.Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Maxine Bain; three sons, David Lamar (Terri) Bain, Trenton, Ga., Donald Ray (Elizabeth) Bain, Slygo, Ga., and Eric Nathan Bain, of Chattanooga; two grandchildren, Daniel Nathan Bain and Sydney Suzanne Bain; and several nieces and nephews.Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.Contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga at 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416.Funeral services will be held Monday, July 26, 2010 at 1 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Childress, Mayor Johnny Baker, and SGM Dink Fowlkes officiating.Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the Tennessee Army National Guard.Honorary Pallbearers are CSM Kenneth Combs, CSM John McDaniel, SGM Dink Fowlkes, MSG Bill Reynolds, CSM Louis Brannon, SGM Jack Reavely, Chief Sid Adams, Mark Harris, Rossville City Councilman, and Rossville City Employees.The family will receive friends Saturday and Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.
