Jay Scoggins

RICEVILLE Jay Clarence Scoggins, 89, died Tuesday morning, July 27, 2010, at his residence.A native of McMinn County and former Chattanooga resident, he was a son of the late Loyd Claudis and Alice Rymer Scoggins and was also preceded in death by five brothers, Homer, Clyde, Arthur, Raymond and Troy.He was a former member of East Chattanooga Baptist Church, where he attended Sunday school for over 35 years without missing a Sunday, he was also as an ordained deacon of the church for 50 years. He is now a member of Eastanallee Baptist Church.He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was associated with Crane Enamel in the Shipping department for over 39 years, until his retirement.He is survived by his wife to whom he has been married for 62 years, Letha Womac Scoggins, of Riceville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara S. and Frank Curtis, of Athens, Phyllis Scoggins, of Soddy-Daisy; one grandson and his wife, Jayson and Jennifer Scoggins, of Soddy-Daisy; one great-granddaughter, Payton Scoggins; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Scoggins and Mary Ruth Scoggins, both of Cleveland; two brothers-in-law, Harold Womac, of Athens and Neal and his wife, Gail Womac, of Calhoun; several nieces and nephews.A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Rev.
