Mae Masey

Mae Theo Massey, 92, expired on Sunday, July 25, 2010.She was born on Feb. 24, 1918 in Nashville. Mrs. Massey graduated from Pearl High School in 1934. Thirty years after finishing high school, Mrs. Massey graduated Cum Laude from Tennessee A & I State University in 1964. At Tennessee A&I she was listed in Whos Who in American Universities, inducted into Alpha Kappa Mu honor society, Kappa Delta Pi (Upper 5th of her class) and Kappa Omicron Pi (National Home Economics Association).During her work career, Mrs. Massey served as a family consultant with Community Action Program, a family specialist in an elementary school and as a substitute teacher. Her last assignment after finishing college was as a high school home economics teacher. She taught for 22 years and retired from Chattanooga High School.Mrs. Massey was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Edora Ewing; sister, Jeanne; aunt, Roberta Kimes and loving husband, Henderson Massey.She leaves to cherish her memory two brothers, Buford (Ernestine) Majors and Richard (Willa) Majors, of Nashville; two nieces, Chapeka and Tia Majors, of Atlanta; one nephew, Scott (Tamika) Majors, of Nashville; devoted caregivers, Shirley Smith and Dorothy Peoples; god-daughter, Barbara Gardner; god-son, Charles (Suzette) Brown; dear friends, Floy Clark, Minnie Wiley, Malcolm Walker and other relatives and friends.Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Minister Linda McDaniel officiating.The body will lie in state after noon today with the family receiving friends from 6 7 p.m. today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
