Melvin Garren Jr.ROSSVILLE Melvin Lee Garren Jr., 84, passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2010.He was born in Cleveland, Tenn., but had lived in the North Georgia area for the last 55 years. He was a charter member of Battlefield Ministries Church of God, but attended Red Hill Church of God in Whitwell. He had retired from Mueller Co. in 1985 as an electrician after more than 20 years of service and then worked at Goodwill and Bi-Lo in Rossville. He was also a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WW II and will be sadly missed by all that knew him.He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Sledge Garren; and son, Timothy Garren.Survivors include three daughters, Vina Shaw, of Rossville, Starr Arp, of Alabama and Debbie Peters, of Rossville; three sons, Robbie Garren, of Georgetown, Tenn., Lee Garren, of Rossville and Danny Lauer, of Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.Visitation from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.Services will be private.The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the doctor's and staff at NHC of Fort Oglethorpe and Hospice of Chattanooga for the love and care you gave to their father.Arrangements by W.L.
