Michael Herschel

HIGH POINT, N.C.Mr. Michael James Herschel, Jr., 83, died Thursday at the Hospice Home of High Point. Mr. Herschel was born April 29, 1927 in Cincinnati, OH, a son of Michael James Herschel, Sr. and Helen Berens Herschel. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Mr. Herschel was the retired President of U.S. Stove Mfg. Co. in Chattanooga. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where he taught 5th grade Religion at the IHM School for six years and also taught the Adult RCIA Education.He was married to the former Mary Ann Mollmann who preceded him in death in 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Martha "Marti" Seldin.Surviving are three daughters, Mary Puettman of Knoxville, Monica Smith of Vergennes, Vt., Maureen T. Lovell and husband Bill of Knoxville; one son, Michael James Herschel, III and wife Leida of High Point; nine grandchildren, Kelly Brown, Christy Puettman, L. Nicholas Smith, Nathan Smith, Michael James Herschel, IV, Victoria Herschel, Olivia Herschel, Will Lovell, Lauren Lovell; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Williams and Aubrey Williams.A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4145 Johnson St., High Point, NC 27265 with Father Vince Smith, O.S.F.S. officiating. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
