Malcolm Thompson

Jr.Malcolm Percival Thompson Jr., 78, passed away early Saturday, morning of April 23, 2011, peacefully in his home.He was a loving husband, father and Pop. Mac enjoyed sailing, golfing, dancing, singing, traveling and dreaming the impossible dream.A native of New York, Mac served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by Transamerica Insurance Co. for 35 years and served as vice president of the Commercial Property Underwriting Division. He retired to Chattanooga in 2003.He started square dancing and round dancing in 1978 and served as President of the Wrecktangles Square Dance Club through 2011.He was the son of the late Malcolm and Madeline Thompson and was preceded in death by his sister, Adele Mangini.Mac is survived by his wife, Sandy; his sisters, Hermine Rasmussen and Elizabeth Sayre; his four children, Cheryl Waite and Norman Griffin, Barry and Hiagi Thompson, Evie-Sue and Bob Sullivan and Stuart Thompson; 11 grandchildren, Andy and Rachel Waite, Barry and Francheska Thompson Junior, Vicki and Ryan Holloway, Mac III, Kelly, Aliti, Nathan, Daniel, Timothy, Tieri and Lani; and two great-grandchildren, Asher and Jack.A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital or Hospice of Chattanooga.Arrangements by Chattanooga Funeral Home, Valley View Chapel.
