Clifford Whittle

Clifford H. Whittle, 88, retired vice-president of Skyland International Corp., maker of Buster Brown Textiles, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011.Born Oct. 8, 1922 in Memphis, Tenn., he was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga. During World War II, Cliff served in the U.S. Army Corps, as a pilot. He was a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church and was one of the founding board members of St. Nicholas School.Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Mollie Light Whittle; first wife, Eileen B. Whittle; second wife, Martha S. Whittle; and brother, William E. Whittle.Survivors include his daughter, Paula Worth (Jeff) of Albemarle, N.C.; son, Clifford H. Whittle Jr (Scott Cumming), of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, Lyle Worth (Leigh Ann), of Locust, N.C. and Molly (Don) Adams, of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Sam and Emily Worth and Sophia Adams; sisters, Betty Wilhoite of Knoxville and Mary (John) Jobron, of Chattanooga; and devoted caregivers, Linda and Kristy Thompson.Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Rev.
