LeRoy Cravens

Marvin LeRoy Cravens, 74, of Hixson, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011.LeRoy was born in New Madrid, Mo., on Sept. 30, 1936. He graduated from high school in Caruthersville, Mo. He then went to Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau, Missouri where he graduated cumlaude with a bachelors degree in accounting. LeRoy was the first player to be offered a full football scholarship to Southeast Missouri State. He played on the National Division 2 team in 1955 and was inducted into the Southeast Missouri State Hall of Fame. LeRoy was employed by Central Soya Company where he served as General Manager of their plants in Montgomery, Ala., New Oxford, Pa., and was the General Manager of Southeast Division of Central Soya based in Chattanooga.He was preceded in death by his parents, Floy and Albert Cravens, of Caruthersville, Mo., and a sister, Joan Cravens Hubert, of Knoxville.LeRoy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Peggy Elizabeth Barker Cravens; son, Lee Cravens; daughter, Susan Cravens Parker; grandchildren, Justin and Megan Parker, all of Chattanooga; sister, Vickie Cravens Baskin, of Memphis, Tenn.There will be no visitation at the funeral home.There will be a private burial at I. O. O. F. cemetery in Charleston, Mo.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in LeRoys name to the Ronald McDonald House, 200 Central Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37403 or to the American Cancer Society, 6221 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
