Dick Young

Richard A. "Dick" Young, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012, 81 years old, of Milford, and formerly of Monroe.Beloved husband of 56 years to Peggie; devoted father to Cynthia McCurdy (Hank); Leslie Vega (Ed-deceased); and Richard F. Young. Loving and dedicated grandfather to his four grandchildren, Katie, John and Harrison McCurdy; and Richard Vega (son of Edwin F. Vega deceased); brother of Shirley Horvath; also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Foster and Marjorie Young; and was predeceased by his brother, Edward Young; and his sister, Dorothy Stote.He was an outstanding football player playing three years at Chattanooga-Tennessee, where he was a 60-minute man for the Mocs, playing fullback on offense and linebacker on defense. He was selected first team Little All-American in his senior year in 1954 and played in the Blue and Gray Football Classic in Montgomery, Ala.; and the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.. Young was awarded the Edwards Award, symbolic as the most outstanding athlete of the year. In 1987 Dick was entered into the Football Hall of Fame at the University of Chattanooga.Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at St. Peters Episcopal Church, Route 111, Monroe.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made the to the Chester County Special Olympics, 458 E.
