Melvin Lomax

DALTON Melvin Truett Lomax, 85, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, at his residence.He was the son of the late, Henry and Bessie Young Lomax and was preceded in death by his son Bobby Scott Lomax; sisters. Eunis Surratt and Elaine Kester; brother Dr. Don Lomax, Md.Truett was a veteran of the Army Air Corp and was a member of Dalton First United Methodist Church where he was an usher and was involved in Sunday School, he was a past manager of the Dalton Chamber of Commerce and retired from the Carpet and Rug Institute.Truett was instrumental in bringing Dalton State College (Dalton State Jr. College) to Dalton. He was past member of the Dalton Rotary Club and was a member of the Dalton Elks Club and the Jaycees.Truett is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Hadden Lomax of the residence; son Wayne Lomax, of Greenville, S.C.; granddaughter, Lori Lomax, of Greenville; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Bobby Lomax, DDS and Betty, of Salsbury, N.C.; and sister-in law Marie Lomax, also of Salsbury; nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at Dalton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Robin Lindsey and the Rev. Kenny Ott officiating.Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends in the Atrium of the Church from 10 a.m. Thursday until the funeral hour at noon.The family ask that flowers please be omitted and memorials be made to Dalton First United methodist Church, 501 S.
