Philip Swope

CHICKAMAUGA Philip Earl Swope, 81, passed away Thursday Aug. 9, 2012, at his residence.A native of Twin Falls, Idaho, he has lived in the Chickamauga area for the past 59 years and was formerly of Long Island, Ala. Philip was a former employee of A.S. Haight Co. where he worked for 13 years, was a Veteran of the National Guard and a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church. Philip was a kind person and was liked by everyone. He liked singing very much and he loved to sing. He had a very good voice.He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Janie Dickerson Swope.He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances White Swope of Chickamauga; brother-in-law, John White, of Deland, Fla.; sister-in-law, Earline Parson, of Mobile, Ala.; nephew, Robert White, of Asheville, Ala.Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Charles McElhaney and the Rev. Bill Casteel officiating.Interment will follow at LaFayette Memory Gardens.The family will receive friends from 2-9 p.m. today and Monday until funeral time at the funeral home.The family would like to say a special thanks to United Hospice for the care given to Mr. Swope and the family.An online register book may be signed at www.wilsonfuneralhome.com.
