William Wann

William Lowery Wann, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012.Born Feb. 18, 1936, Mr. Wann was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga.He was a loving son, husband and father. He was a graduate of the Baylor School where he was an outstanding wrestler at the University of Chattanooga. He served his country in the US Army and he retired from ICI-Zeneca after working over 40-years in the textile industry. He was a former member and deacon of Rivermont Presbyterian Church and member of First Presbyterian Church.He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth S. and William B. Wann.He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Katherine Thompson Wann; two sons, William L. (Grace) Wann Jr., of Birmingham, Ala., and Thomas J. (Elizabeth) Wann, of Charleston, S.C.; three grandchildren, Grace L. Wann, William L. Wann III and Katherine M. Wann, of Birmingham, Ala.; and nieces and nephews.He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid golfer known as "Magic" by all his golfing friends. Spending time around the putting green, chipping and putting with friends and local high school golf team members gave him great pleasure. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Pop".A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1 Mt. Olivet Drive, Chattanooga.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Baylor School, Williams Island Ferry Road, Chattanooga, in memory of Mr. William L. Wann, class of 1954.The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, Aug. 16, 2012 at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road.
