Peggy Deakins

Peggy Shrum Deakins, 78, of East Brainerd, went home to be with family, friends and her Lord Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012.A native of Palmer, Tenn., Mrs. Deakins was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Shrum and Della Gibbs Shrum. She was a former resident of the Hixson area prior to moving to East Brainerd in 2004. Mrs. Deakins had worked for DuPont for many years, retiring in 1978. After retirement she worked for Wal-Mart in East Brainerd.She was an active member of East Brainerd Baptist Church.Peggy never met a stranger. She loved camping and especially enjoyed helping her older friends and neighbors.In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, George L. Deakins; brother, Mose Shrum; and sister, Mary Ellen Curtis.Survivors include her daughters, Cindy (George) Aslinger and Pamela (Mark) Zumbrun; grandchildren, George (Cori) Aslinger III, Phillip Aslinger, Drew Zumbrun and Paige Zumbrun; great-grandson, Landon Aslinger; sister, Betty (Harold) Ball; brother, Andrew (Joyce) Shrum; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. today, Aug. 29, 2012, in the funeral home chapel with Rev.
