Julianne Dyer

Mrs. Julianne Reid Dyar went home to be with the Lord the morning of Friday, Nov. 30, 2012. Born July 15, 1934 in York, Ala., it was clear from a young age that Julianne was both bright and gifted, excelling in academics, piano, and ballet. From ages 13 to 18, she taught ballet to young people in York. After she graduated high school in 1951, she attended Mississippi Southern where she earned a BA in medical technology. She later moved to Birmingham, AL where she married her husband, Mr. James Hale Dyar. She worked a number of years as supervisor of the outpatient laboratory at University of AL, Birmingham, then transferred to Cooper Green Mercy Hospital where she was chief medical technologist. In 1961, her son, Steven Jay Dyar, was born with profound mental and physical handicaps, so the family moved to Chattanooga in 1973 in order for him to attend Orange Grove Center. It was Mrs. Dyar's tireless search for help for Steve that drove her to the cross, and she testified that her salvation is evidence of God's promise that "...all things work together for good to them who love God and are called according to His purpose," (Rom 8:28). Julianne and Jim lovingly cared for Steve for 50 years until he was placed in supported housing. Mrs. Dyar obtained a M.Ed. from UTC in 1984, after which she opened a tutoring business. A gifted teacher, she was driven by a passion to help change the lives of children who struggled with math and reading. Mrs. Dyar and her husband are members of Red Bank Baptist Church.Mrs. Dyar is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Reid, and her brother, William Reid. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, James Dyar, a retired pharmacist; her son, Steven Dyar; and her daughter, Helen Dyar, all residents of Chattanooga.Visitation will be held 1-3 p.m. followed by a short service with Reverend Bert Jones officiating, on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Lane Funeral Home , 601 Ashland Terrace .
