Thelma Lee Byrd, of East Ridge, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012.She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Maude Terry; and loving husband, Charles H. Byrd.She is survived by her sons, Lynn (Susan) Byrd , Ken (Amy) Byrd; granddaughter, Shannon Byrd Bitler.Mrs. Byrd was a longtime member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church where she had been a part of the United Methodist Women, the Sanctuary Choir, was a member of and teacher for the Adult Bible Class, and had spent many years as a youth counselor.A graduate of Central High School, Thelma attended McKenzie College where she later taught with her husband. After retiring following years of service as a bookkeeper at Valley Optical Supply, she worked at New Life Homes for Boys, spreading Christ's message of love and redemption.Thelma was a gentle, sweet lady who believed that love could fix anything and never gave up on anyone. She will be missed by all who knew her.The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 S. Moore Road.Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Dial and the Rev.
