Jessie Mae Wood 98, of Chattanooga, and native of Rockmart, Ga., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012.She was born on March 9, 1914. She moved from Rockmart to Chattanooga at an early age. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church and was the oldest member.She was known as a Godly woman who loved Christ and always talked about him with tears and smiles. She was also an encourager, a prayer warrior. You would visit her to give her encouragement and she would end up encouraging you. She had a saying when you would leave her, "Always remember it's a better day," and jokingly if you werent acting right she'd tell you "I'm going to bop you one."She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lizzie Wood. She was the last surviving sibling of 11 children and the last living aunt.She was survived by her dedicated and devoted niece, primary caregiver: Patricia (devoted nephew, Milton) Wood-Ratliff; nieces, Belinda (Dean) Hall, Tjuania (Horace) Doyle, Beverly (James) Appling, Rosalyn (Jimmy) Bush, Martobia, Tommy, Michelle Wood and Countess Marshall; devoted nephew, Mark Wood, all of Chattanooga. Host of nieces, nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews; adopted son John (Charlotte) Gossett of Dayton, Tenn.The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 21, 2012, at Trammell Chapel, 913 M.L. King Blvd.Funeral service will be at First Baptist Church 506 E. Eighth St. at 1 p.m. Friday with the Rev. William T. Ladd III, officiating.Burial in Rockmart, Ga.
