ROANOKE Clyde E. Gwin, 94 died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012.He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., Aug. 24, 1918.Clyde was raised and educated in Chattanooga and married Wilma Culpepper on Sept. 23, 1939.Clyde was a decorated veteran of WWII, serving in the 75th Infantry Division, in the European Theaters of France, Germany and Belgium. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge.His civilian career spanned employment; with the NC&St. L Railroad, Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, Shenandoah Life Insurance Company, and the car diagnostic center, Dynatune, which he co-owned with his son-in-law.He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde L. and Clara D. Gwin, of Chattanooga, Tenn., as well of his wife of 63 Wilma Gwin.He is survived by a sister, Shirley May, of Chattanooga; daughters, Drucilla Naff (Gayle), of Roanoke, Cheryl Carr (Jim), of Florence S.C.; grandchildren, Gwin Ann Westenbarger (Michael), of Apex, N.C., Key Churchill (Susan), of Roanoke, Braxton Naff and Forest Naff (Anita) of Roanoke; great-grandchildren, Will and Owen Churchill, Abby and Laura Westenbarger, Colton and Carter Naff; nephews, Fred (Ann), Bobby, and Davy May, all of Chattanooga, great nephews, Gary May, Ryan May, and Dillon May all of Chattanooga.Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, in the Chapel of Light Mausoleum of Evergreen Burial park, with Rev Tim Martin officiating and Military Honors by the DAV and VFW Honor Guard.The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100, www.oakeys.com.
