Blaine Stancombe

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Blaine Stancombe, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, following a courageous battle with brain cancer.Blaine was born May 14, 1934, in Bangor, Pa. A son of Edith and Garnet Stancombe, Blaine graduated from Temple University in 1956 with a bachelor of science in accounting followed with a master of business administration in 1964.As a young man, Blaine proudly served as a page in the United States House of Representatives. He served two years in the United States Army, primarily at White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico. Blaine retired from a 35 year career with E.I. DuPont. Retirement years included the formation of Fairview Landscape Design where he enjoyed his love of outdoor planting.Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Gail Smith Stancombe, of Charlotte; son, Dr. Bradley B. Stancombe and wife, Jill and their daughter, Brittany, of Clarksville, Tenn.; son, Todd W. Stancombe and wife, Catherine and their children, Luke, Cory and Savannah, of Charlotte; brother, Dr. Wesley A. Stancombe, of Bangor, Pa.; nephew, David J. Stancombe, of Pennsylvania; and a niece, Diane S. Haney, of Pennsylvania.Visitation will be held 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, at Calvary Church, 5801 Pineville Matthews Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28226.Interment will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Church Life Center at the above address.An online guestbook is available at www.heritagecares.net.Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel.
