Rebecca Herrin

Rebecca Stone Herrin, passed away Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24, 2012 at the age of 97. Born to Mary Lipscomb Stone and Stephen Stone, she was raised in New Market, Alabama, moved to New Hope, Ala., with her husband, Herbert Herrin and after his death became a resident of Huntsville, Ala."Becky" was an avid Canasta player and loved Bingo especially in her Nursing Home where she was always a winner. She was a single mother beginning in 1957 and supported her only daughter, often giving everything to her and nothing to herself. She was the first city clerk in New Hope, Ala.; was a bank teller and worked many years at Chambers Bottling Co. She was a member of Pilot International.As her health began to fail she moved to the Chattanooga area to be with her daughter. Our thanks to all the staff at Morning Point in Hixson, the Life Care Center of Rhea County, and the staff at Rhea County Medical Center, Dayton, Tenn.She is preceeded in death by her husband, Herbert H. Herrin; sisters Julia Morgan, Annie Lee Broyles, Katherine Billie and brothers Lipscomb Stone and Tilman Stone. She is survived by her daughter Julia Annette Reeves; son-in-law, Jim; Grandsons Chris (Dana) Reeves and Spencer Reeves; Several nieces and nephews. Her special joys as she aged were her great grandsons: Cameron Reeves, 7, J. Hogan Reeves, 4; and Payne Reeves, 2.The Funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home with visitation 30 minutes prior to service. the interment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.As a member of Holmes Street United Methodist Church we would appreciate in lieu of flowers that donations go to the Holmes Street Methodist Church Building Fund. 501 Holmes Avenue, NE; Huntsville, Al. please sign online registry at www.valhallafunerals.com.
