Allen Hames

Allen Hammond Hames, 73, of Signal Mountain, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at his home.He was a graduate of City High School, the University of Chattanooga and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.Allen built many homes, primarily on Signal Mountain and was an active member of the Homebuilders Association of Chattanooga, serving as president in 1988. He was awarded the Builder of the Year in 1989 and Remodeler of the Year in 1993. He was a member of the American Legion and gave generously to many charities.He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy Hames, of Chattanooga, and Joyce Hames, of Signal Mountain, and his brother, Dr. Eugene Hames, of Hartselle, Ala.He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Tom) Cofer; grandchildren, Caroline Cofer and John Cofer, all of Signal Mountain.A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 23, 2012.Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery at a later date.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you contribute to the American Cancer Society, McKamey Animal Shelter, Hospice of Chattanooga, or a charity of your choice.Visit www.lanefh.com to share condolences.Arrangements are by Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace.
