Evelyon Hilleary

SPRINGCITY Evelyon Vanderpool Hilleary, 84, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at the Parkridge Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Nashville, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late William McKinley and Ellie Mai Jacobs Vanderpool, Sr. Evelyon was a graduate of East High School in Nashville, where she was active with the East High School Alumni Association. She moved to Spring City in 1956 after her marriage to Bill Hilleary. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spring City, where she served as a ruling Elder and a Sunday school teacher. She was also very involved in many activities supporting schools and youth, such as initiating a Head Start program at Spring City Elementary, and serving as Cub Scout Den Mother. Evelyon was a licensed realtor and broker and founded Evelyon Hilleary and Associates Real Estate. She served 10 years on the Rhea County School Board, including several years as its Chairman. Most importantly, Evelyon was a loving wife, mother and very proud grandmother.Evelyon was preceded in death by her brother William McKinley Vanderpool, Jr.Survivors include her husband of 56 years William C. Hilleary, of Spring City; sons Van (Meredith) Hilleary, of Murfreesboro, Brent (Meg) Hilleary, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Scott (Debbie) Hilleary of Spring City; daughter Allison (Phil) Chandler, of Chattanooga; grandchildren Laura, Susanna, Ginny and Campbell Hilleary of Murfreesboro, Alex and Joseph Hilleary of Winston-Salem, N.C., Millie Earhart, Parker, Rebecca and Drew Hilleary of Spring City, Tyler and Hilleary Chandler, of Chattanooga; niece Brenda (Mark) Monks, of Fayetteville, Tenn.; and nephew Jack (Phyllis) Vanderpool, of Spring City.Funeral services will be Monday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Spring City with Rev. Ed Langham officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring City Cemetery. She will lie in state at the church one hour before services on Monday.
